Journal History

Zamani: A Journal of African Historical Studies was established by the University of Dar es Salaam during the Senate meeting of April 12, 2023. In that 379th University Senate meeting, it was decided that Tanzania Zamani should be decomissioned and be replaced by pan-continental journal. Zamani journal replaced the old Tanzania Zamani: A Journal of Historical Research and Writing with effect from January 2024. Despite Tanzania Zamani representing and carrying the philosophy of what used to be ‘the Dar es Salaam School of History’, it was limited in scope geographically as it welcomed papers on Tanzanian history. Tanzania Zamani ceased production on December 2023.  While Tanzania Zamani was co-published by the Historical Association of Tanzania and the Department of History at University of Dar es Salaam; Zamani journal is owned and managed by the Department of History at University of Dar es Salaam.
